The factory battery cables on these trucks are known to cause a variety of issues, and on early models, the passenger-side positive terminal is unnecessarily large and impractical. We solve that problem by using solid military-style terminals for a cleaner, more functional setup with plenty of room for accessories.
The Performance Custom Cable kit replaces the undersized factory 2 AWG crossover cable with a much larger 1/0 AWG marine-grade tinned pure copper cable . We use this same 1/0 AWG cable for both driver- and passenger-side grounds, as well as the power crossover from the driver-side battery to the passenger-side battery. Each set includes two military-style terminals , giving you the flexibility to run nearly any accessory you want without worrying about damaging the cable from over-tightening.
We also use a 4 AWG wire from the battery to feed the fender-mounted relay, a 12 AWG wire to feed the starter solenoid, and a massive 2/0 AWG starter supply cable complete with a 1500-degree protective heat sleeve .
Everything is built from tinned pure copper with a super-thick protective coating to help prevent corrosion. We finish every connection with tinned copper lugs and adhesive-lined heat shrink for a tight, durable seal. Then we cover the wiring in an abrasion-resistant, heat-resistant tight-weave loom for even more protection and a clean finished look.
To keep installation clean and straightforward, we use factory-style retainer clips on the crossover cable and retain the factory mounting hardware for a nearly factory-like fit and appearance.
